Anyah bit back a smile, pointing at herself innocently, while Sheela just glared. “Who, me?”

Chet stomped right up to her, until he got close enough for Sheela to instinctively put an arm between them. “I have a bone to pick with you,” he snarled. “Your frilly bodyguard doesn’t need to be a part of this.”

Anyah looked around, nonchalant as ever. “Hm. Well, given that your babysitter is nowhere to be seen, I suppose that’s fair.”

“But--!”

“Not to worry, Sheela, just stand behind me. We’re only going to chat.”

She was never intimidated by Chet in the slightest. In fact, she had secretly been hoping she’d run into him again. Just to see if--

“I heard what you told people about me.”

Ah, perfect.

“Did you like it?”

The smugness in her voice must have been too much for him, because she swore he was going to pass out with how red his face got. “Max is not my boyfriend!”

Anyah squinted. Huh. Okay. “That’s the part that you’re gonna be defensive about? Really? None of the other stuff? I mean, I barely even touched on Max, but--”

“You wanna know what your problem is, Princess?” He jabbed a finger at her. “You’re as much of a poser as I am!”

Anyah gently held Sheela back, a big smirk on her face. “So you admit to being a poser?”

“At least I’m not as pathetic as you. At least I know it.”

Okay, maybe that hurt a little bit. Whatever, she wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of acting offended. “I’m really sorry, I fail to see what we have in common?”

“You’re a fake,” he spat. “An entitled diva who relies on charm to mask all her flaws! But I can see right through you, okay?!” He grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer to him. “Because you’re just like me on the inside, aren’t you? Petty.”

A hand grabbed Chet’s arm and twisted it behind his back. “Ow! Let go of me, you freak!”

Sheela glared at him over his shoulder, holding him in place. “You do not touch the princess without her permission,” she spoke, in a low, hateful voice. “When you do, I am allowed to use force.” She tightened her grip, and people started to stare.

“Sheela,” Anyah whispered. “It’s okay, let’s not make a scene.”

“He grabbed you,” Sheela growled, locking eyes with Anyah. “He deserves it.”

“Let go of me already! She told you to!”

“Not unless you apologize!”

“Woah, woah! Excuse me!” A large hand rested gently on Sheela’s shoulder. She whipped her head around to scowl at the owner, and he retracted. “Can you let go of him, please?” Sheela looked to Anyah, who nodded, and sighed.

“Fine.”

Max smiled politely at the ladies as Chet ran to be behind him. “Thank you. I’m sure whatever is happening here can be resolved with our words, hm?”

“I’m not saying anything until he says sorry to Anyah,” snapped Sheela. “She’s going through enough because of him!”

“Well unless Anyah apologizes to me, I’m not saying anything either!”

“Then apologize to Arael,” Anyah sneered. “Oh, wait, he’s not here.” Her stormy gaze shifted to Max’s eyes.
